A backyard 5th birthday bash to envy

Posted on August 30, 2010

I was graciously invited to the home of the little sister of my Scribble Press friend from earlier this year. A 5-year-old who was treated to all of her favorite things, ice cream, magic, face painting, balloon animals and glitter tattoos, “A” was the princess of the ball and enjoyed every minute. And let’s take a second right now to say that the idea of Baskin Robbins coming and setting up a sundae bar is nothing short of genius.

With the pool highly populated by leaping children, the BBQ always going and the friends connecting, this was a lovely party and I was so happy to be a part of it. I was asked to go outside my comfort zone and shoot the entire party, not individual children and guests and it was definitely a challenge. But I feel I rose to it and got some great shots for the family.

Here are a few of my favorites:

Taken By Storm Photography

Posted on August 19, 2010

In the very near future I’ll be launching Taken by Storm Photography, which will be my parent photography company, mainly focused on portrait photography, larger scale events (weddings, mitzvahs, spiritual ceremonies, et cetera) and headshot photography.

Right now I am offering a special on headshot photography. Take advantage now while I use and abuse your faces to build on my portfolio. For $100 you will get three looks and all usable images. That’s a great deal on headshots folks, take advantage of it while the offer still stands!

Turning 5 at The Santa Monica Pier

Posted on August 15, 2010

I spent the day today at the Santa Monica Pier, which that alone should leave you very jealous. But what makes you more jealous is that I got to be around a family of a little boy who turned 5 this past Thursday, and celebrated his birthday today. This family was so loving, so happy, so accepting and so much fun! The birthday boy had a hard time warming up at first – the entire event started out with being overwhelmed. But when his best friend showed up, all bets were off, and so was the birthday boy – riding rides on repeat, laughing, cavorting, smiling, joking around and enjoying life.

Here are some of my favorite shots of one of my new favorite families:

Big brother gives the birthday boy and his BFF a hug.

BFF takes my breath away

Mother-son moments always touch my heart. This is the big brother and mom.

Dad stepped up and showed big brother the dance moves.

Mom and grandma (her mom) sharing a moment.

Birthday boy started out shy.

A hug from mom makes everything perfect.

Hey may have been shy but his dimples weren’t.

This is easily one of my all-time favorite shots I have ever taken in my life.

Just a quick visit to Oz with E and her family…

Posted on July 26, 2010

I had the most fantastic time this morning at a Wizard of Oz themed party for a very loving family! They had the most fantastic ideas – Ding Dongs with a bucket that says “Ding Dong the witch is dead”, wonderful cut out Dorothy, a personalized sign that her uncle had made based off of the Wizard of Oz poster, and so much more! The birthday girl clearly would have been happy with her BFF, Dorothy and cupcakes. Everything else was just a wonderful bonus to the day.

Here are some of my favorite sneak peaks from the day:

What a wonderful family!
The BFFs spot Dorothy entering the party!

Baby sister
Birthday girl!
No words necessary, the cuteness factor says it all.
E smiles for Dorothy
Baby sister smiled for her grandfather EVERY time.

L & L Country Store

Posted on July 12, 2010

Yesterday I spent the afternoon in a backyard-turned-country store in celebration of a very sweet loving brother and sister, L & L.

With amazing custom candy and cake pops courtesy of Sweets Indeed and details that defied anything you could even imagine, courtesy of the imagination of Leesa Zelken and her wonderful staff at Send in the Clowns, I was torn between taking pictures and pretending I was turning 4 so I could be a part of the day. Petting zoo (seriously, there were piglets that were one day old!), pony rides, jumping castle mazes, train rides and an enormous tent filled with details personalized for the birthday boy and girl – you name it, it was there. From the adorable bandana banners that adorned the tent to the bales of hay and charming fan centerpieces, Send in the Clowns really outdid even themselves.

There are some families in this world that amaze you with their love, kindness, generosity and passion for their children/grandchildren/nieces and nephews.  This was one of those families.  Thank you very much for including me into such a beautiful and warm party.  I very much look forward to watching L & L grow up beautifully all due to how you are raising them.

A beautiful family, inside and out.

The birthday boy. He was so serious! Unless, of course, he was near the balloons.

L so thoroughly enjoyed her day. I never saw her unhappy for a single second.

L and her baby Sarah. I recall giving my dolls a very similar haircut.

Piggy Pops from Sweets Indeed - yes I tasted one and yes I nearly passed out from the deliciousness.

So this was my first time seeing a one day old piglet, how about you?

Welcome to L & L Country Store! (Sign created by Send In The Clowns)

Sweets Indeed and Send In The Clowns collaborated on this amazing haul of personalized signage and candy/treats.

Sweets Indeed served this amazing strawberry lemonade (plain lemonade available too) while Send In The Clowns made these hang tags to go on each jar.

Sweet Indeed's Chick Pops - I didn't try them but I can only assume they were as heavenly as the pig pops.
